Indigenous Cohort Hire Teaching Track Position
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), in conjunction with the Indigenous Health Learning Lodge
at McMaster University, invites applications from Indigenous scholars for a teaching track
position. This position is for a three-year term with the expectation of renewal and transition to
a permanent teaching position after academic assessment. This position has been created as
part of our Indigenous Cohort Hiring Initiative which recognizes the Faculty’s urgent need to
develop and implement culturally relevant curriculum and to develop and expand educational
supports for indigenous learners.
The ideal applicant will hold a PhD (or equivalent) and will have a strong background in
Indigenous health education and culturally appropriate Indigenous knowledge preservation and
translation related to health sciences. Consideration will also be given to promising applicants
who hold a Master’s degree and appropriate experience. The successful candidate will have
experience in curriculum development, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and
mentorship at the undergraduate, graduate and/or postgraduate levels, and an excellent
record of collegiality and collaboration. Departmental affiliation, academic rank and salary will
be commensurate with the experience and expertise of the selected candidate.
In this role, you will work with program leads, learners, and the Indigenous Health Education
Curriculum Group to develop and implement curriculum and programming. Once
implemented, you will monitor the success of these actions and update and/or evolve these
offering to ensure that they remain relevant. You will also be supported through your
membership in the Indigenous Health Learning Lodge which is committed to growing
McMaster’s acceptance and capacity for Indigenous ways of knowing, through curriculum
development and implementation. Further to this, and dependant on your area(s) of interest,
you may also contribute to educational policy initiatives, alumni programming, educational
research, or other related areas, including those related to admissions, student success, and
student affairs/support.
